Bunny season!
This is the time of year that people start finding bunnies. Our local rabbits keep all their babies together in a nest when tiny, and only feed them a couple of times in 24 hrs. As they grow, mom will move them frequently to keep predators from finding them, but she will still stay away from them as much as possible. This long maternal absence can make people think the mother has abandoned the babies, but they do this to keep predators from noticing. Often this nest is hidden is grass, so please be on the lookout when mowing your lawn. If you find a bunny in your grass, mom is probably near. Keep pets and people away. Because rabbits have a very high mortality when captured, rehabbing them is only done under a few conditions: They are still needing to nurse and mom is dead or gone They are injured or starving They have been captured by a dog or cat; in which case they will need antibiotic treatment Call Forever Wild at 541-459-4023 and we can help you figure out if your bunny needs help or is fine left where it is. Thank you for looking out for our wild babies!
